On behalf of the JBRC
Board of Directors and staff, I would like to welcome you to the Jamaica Business
Resource Center, Queens/Brooklyn Minority Business Development Center Web
site.
As the national pilot
for former President Clinton's "One Stop Capital Shop" program and
as the Queens/Brooklyn Minority Business Development Center, our mission is
to be a catalyst for community economic empowerment; to provide access to
capital and markets for small, minority and women-owned businesses; and to
provide accessible, user-friendly, centralized, coordinated information and
technical assistance to new and existing enterprises.
It is widely held that
the small business sector is the engine that drives our nation's economy.
Not only do we subscribe to this notion, we believe that entrepreneurship
is a key building block for economic prosperity and expansion within our communities.
Experience has taught
us that the principal reasons for business failures are lack of expertise
in fundamental areas of business; under-capitalization at startup and insufficient
cash flow; and continued under-representation and barriers in accessing government
and private sector contracts, as well as domestic and global commercial markets.
The approach we have taken
at the JBRC/Queens-Brooklyn MBDC is to both identify such inhibitors to success
and to develop proactive strategies to meet them head on. We are most pleased
that in today's climate, while credit scoring remains a reality, some progressive
banks have taken an enlightened posture relative to understanding, serving
and aggressively marketing to the small business sector. We are delighted
that many of them are our partners and are eager to assist you with your business
finance needs.
The services here are
numerous and extensive; and we invite you to come and visit us and become
a member of the JBRC/Queens-Brooklyn MBDC family.
Our services are designed
to help you achieve your business objectives, realize your dreams and build
an even more successful enterprise.
We look forward to seeing
you.
